SUNWAY LAGOON RESORT WINS WORLD FIABCI
AWARD
"…….. A better place to live, work and play"
Malaysia's multibillion Bandar Sunway, of which Sunway Lagoon
Resort is part of the development, once a disused mega mining
pond, has won the prestigious FIABCI Prix d' Excellence Award
2002 in the Leisure category.
This international acclaim is "in recognition of those
whose real estate projects make the world a better place in
which to live, work and play," says the FIABCI citation
accompanying the award.
"Excellence is the watchword in the Group and I am gratified
that this has been recognised by a world body such as FIABCI,"
said Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Chairman of The
Sunway Group.
"It has always been my vision to build a township where
people can live, work and enjoy themselves with the latest
amenities.
"I am delighted that the award places the Resort as
a premier tourist destination in the region," said Tan
Sri Jeffrey Cheah.
He pointed out that the Prix d' Excellence recognition is
for "outstanding projects which show excellence in all
stages of creation", adding : "that's what we at
Sunway always aim for in all our endeavours."
The Prix d' Excellence award takes into consideration : architectural
construction, brokerage, facilities management, marketing
strategies, impact on the local community and benefit to the
environment.
In 1993, Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah was named "Property Man
of the Year" by the Malaysian Chapter of FIABCI.
The FIABCI Malaysian Chapter also had the Sunway Lagoon Theme
Park as its "Best Resort / Leisure Development"
in 1993, "The Best Shopping Centre" award went to
Sunway Pyramid in 2000, and "The Best Hotel Development
Award 2001" was won by Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel.
The Hotel also emerged as a finalist in the leisure category
of the FIABCI Prix d' Excellence 2001 awards. Its nomination
to the international body led to the Resort's success in this
year's award presentation.
The Sunway Lagoon Resort comprises : the Theme Park, Pyramid
shopping mall, hotel, medical centre, tertiary education facilities,
plus the monorail.
