SunMed’s O&G consists of Ante Natal, Post Natal, Delivery as well as Gynaecology services. Nursing care to patients include facilities and medical technologies for in-patient and 24 hours nursing services.
The O&G ward consists of single, double and four-bedded units with a total of 24 beds. All rooms are equipped with TV (except for four-bedded units), telephone, bathrooms, sofa bed (in deluxe rooms) and nurses’ call-bell system. Call-bell services are not chargeable. If you are staying in a single or deluxe room, you may rent a companion bed for your companion during the night.
Delivery suites consist of 9 delivery suites, 1 observation room and 1 treatment room. All patients’ rooms are equipped with a telephone to receive incoming calls. All outgoing calls are chargeable. (Local calls: Press ‘9’ followed by the required numbers. Outstation calls: Press ‘0’ to go through our operators.) Alternatively, there are public phones located at the lift lobby of all floors.
Only husbands are allowed to accompany you in the delivery suites. Public waiting lounge is located near the lift lobby.
What To Expect During & After Delivery
A qualified midwife will assess and plan the care of you in the delivery suite. The Paediatrician will standby for delivery when required.
You will be observed in the delivery suite for at least one hour after delivery before you are sent to the ward. Your baby will be with you after delivery in the delivery suite to initiate breastfeeding and bonding. When you are ready to be transferred out to the ward, your baby will be sent to the Nursery for his or her first bath.
Breastfeeding and rooming-in with your baby is encouraged. Please inform the Nursery staff if you wish to room-in with your baby or if you need any assistance. The breastfeeding nurse will guide and advise you regarding breastfeeding.
The Paediatrician will check on your baby everyday and whenever necessary.
Vaccinations are strongly recommended. It will be given by trained staff upon your consent. BCG is a compulsory vaccine as set by the Malaysian Ministry of Health.
Sunway Medical Centre adopts the policy of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening. Hearing test for your baby will be done by the Audiologist with an additional nominal charge upon your consent and before your baby is discharged.
Visiting hours are from 11.00am to 1.00pm and from 5.00pm to 9.00pm daily. A Visitor’s Pass may be obtained from the Security Officer for visits after 9.00pm.
For any dietary or Post Natal diet preference, please advise the hospital during your stay.
Once your doctor considers you fit to be discharged from the hospital, our ward staff will keep you informed of the necessary arrangements.
The Paediatrician will examine your baby to ensure he or she is fit to go back with you.
We will schedule your post natal and your baby’s follow-up appointments with the respective doctor.
Once you and your baby’s bills are ready, you will be directed to settle the bills at the Ground Floor Discharge Counter.
Before leaving the ward, you will be advised on birth registration, care of your baby and subsequent vaccination by our trained staff.

During these sessions, you can ask
questions and clarify any doubts you

what to do will greatly ease your anxiety
and boost your confidence as you go
through your pregnancy, delivery and cope with your bundle of joy
after he/she is born.
It is important that you join as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed so
that you are able to reap the full benefits of the programme.
Sunway Medical Centre’s Parentcraft Programme is facilitated by
experienced nurse, qualified midwives, physiotherapist, Dietitian,
breastfeeding counsellor, paediatrician and obstetrician.
