Bandar Sunway – In conjunction with the Festival of Lights, Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa invited 40 single mothers from the Bandar Sunway Malaysia Hindu Sangam Community and their 55 children for a memorable day out at the mall and the hotel.
The single mothers, most of whom are widows, divorced, or have sick husbands to care for as well husbands who are in prison, are the sole bread-winners of their families that have been receiving aid from the society.
The children were filled with excitement when they arrived at Sunway Pyramid where goodie bags sponsored by Parkson and Jusco were given to them upon arrival. The children and mothers were then ushered to TGV Cinemas for a movie treat.
Ms Phang Sau Lian, Marketing Director of Sunway Pyramid welcomed the group when they arrived at the malls main entrance. “Festivities are an important time for families to get together and share the joy and celebrations with each other. We must realize that not everyone is as privileged and lucky as some of us. We at Sunway Pyramid are simply doing what we can to add a few more smiles to this festival of lights.” said Ms Phang.
“It has been almost 15 years since I last went to cinema for a movie. I was really entertained” said Madam Selvi.
The buffet dinner spread at the Atrium Café of Pyramid Tower Hotel overwhelmed the children and mothers as most of them have never had the opportunity to dine at a hotel. It was a heart-warming moment watching two young children share a plate of rice when there was plenty of food from the buffet spread to go around.
“We, the Bandar Sunway Malaysia Hindu Sangam Commitee Members are grateful to you and your friends for the hospitality and kindness you guys gave to the single and poor mothers and their children, and not to forget the goodie bags you gave us. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any possible way to make this a successful Deepavali event. May all of you be Blessed with the grace of God” said Ms Thavaman from Malaysia Hindu Sangam Community.
Mr John Autelitano, the hotel’s General Manager was present to welcome the mothers and their children to the hotel for the dinner. He took the opportunity to meet and entertain the children before posing for some pictures to the children’s delight.
“It truly gives me great pleasure to see the smiles on the faces of these single mothers when they saw the joy on the faces of their children as they headed to the buffet line for the food. It is simply priceless to see them having a good time during this festival of lights” he said.
To add more cheer to the occasion, Sunway Group donated RM10,000 to the Bandar Sunway Malaysia Hindu Sangam Community in aid for their everyday needs. Mr. Bernard Paul, Assistant General Manager, Group Corporate Communications of Sunway Group said, “We understand the hardships that these women are going through, so in addition to the memorable day out, we would like for them to also have this RM10,000 to help lessen their burden.”
The night ended on a high note as they left with huge smiles on their faces and a contented appetite as they each left with goodies of sweets and cookies from the hotel as a parting gift.
