Consumers vote Sunway among Malaysia’s Best in Property and Entertainment

Fourth Win for Sunway Berhad at the Putra Brand Awards

Six thousand consumers from around Malaysia have named Sunway among the best property developer and entertainment provider in the country at the Putra Brand Awards 2014. The award is the fourth Putra Brand Award recognition received by the property-construction conglomerate.

The Putra Brand Award differs from others as it is based on consumer polls, conducted by an independent research agency, Pulse Group as opposed to selection by judges. The award is not by entry but completely dependent on consumer choice.

Organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Malaysia (4As) and endorsed by Matrade, the Putra Brand Awards is a recognition and brand valuation exercise to not only recognize public-listed companies but also local brands and SMEs that are near and dear to the hearts of Malaysians. Some 6,000 consumers took part in the brand survey to nominate brands with outstanding performance. Sunway’s success at the event is a testimony of consumers’ trust, loyalty and support in the homegrown brand.

Dato’ Ngeow Voon Yean, managing director, Property Investment Division of Sunway Group, who received the Best Property Developer award said, “This recognition is timely and means a lot to us as Sunway celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. We began by creating a township from a moonscape-like tin-mine. Today, Sunway Resort City brings about great economic, environmental and social impact. This legacy and purpose of building shared value for our shareholders and community are embedded within our values and corporate business strategy.” He added that, the sense of purpose and brand stewardship emanated from the founder and chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, and that is what contributed to the brand’s success for four decades.

Dato Ngeow also said that for the brand to remain relevant, Sunway has shifted from being product-focused to customer-focused, and has embedded a kaizen culture within the organization to deliver best values to its customers.

“This award speaks volumes about our service commitment and a testament that we are very much trusted by consumers and stakeholders. This fourth award for Sunway has achieved the benchmark we set against the best in the industry and we are honoured to be recognised by the consumers,” said Dato’ Ngeow.

Separately, Sunway Lagoon, the leisure arm of Sunway Berhad, has bagged the bronze award in the Entertainment Category. Sunway Lagoon has been constantly bringing in world class attractions to Malaysia, the latest being the RM100 million Nickelodeon Explorers’ Oasis, Asia’s first Nickelodeon-themed attraction to be launched in March 2015. Nickelodeon Explorers’ Oasis at Sunway Lagoon is a strategic collaboration with Viacom International Media Networks Asia.
