It was a night of glitz and glamour as Malaysians from all walks of life came in droves to see Dato’ Michelle Yeoh up close and personal in a charity movie screening at TGV Cinema Sunway Pyramid.
The international movie star famous for her role in numerous Hollywood blockbusters was in Malaysia to promote her latest movie ‘The Lady’. Based on the real life story of famed Nobel Peace Prize Winner and freedom fighter, Aung San Suu Kyi, the movie was about the inspiring tale of her struggle for a more democratic country.
The movie was directed by acclaimed Frenchman Luc Besson of Taxi and The Fifth Element fame.
Looking elegant in a white dress, Dato’ Michelle Yeoh spent an hour greeting guests who came and supported the charity screening. Among those present were Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chairman, Sunway Group; Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim, Deputy Chairman, Sunway Group; Puan Sri Dr. Susan Cheah, EXCO Member, Sunway Group and Datuk Keng Seai Kie, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.
The international star also took time off to address her fans and described the experience in making the movie as a ‘labour of love’.
Due for a nationwide cinema release on 3 May, this pre-release was a charity screening organised by Malaysian Chinese Women Entrepreneur Association (MCWEA) in collaboration with Malaysian Chinese Women Leader Caucus to raise funds for the Women Empowerment Towards National Transformation Programme.
In support of the noble cause, Jeffery Cheah Foundation made a significant donation of RM100,000 as the Gold Sponsor to the association. The funds would enable it to further its cause in empowering women in the country by conducting skills development and career building for the poor and underprivileged, which include single mothers and women from the lower income group.
Sunway Group in collaboration with TGV Cinema were the refreshment and venue sponsors for the charity screening.
