First originally-produced ‘MTV World Stage’ to be held in Kuala Lumpur August 15

Kasabian set to perform for the 1st time in Southeast Asia

KUALA LUMPUR / SINGAPORE / BEIJING – MTV Networks Asia announced today that Malaysia will play host to MTV’s very first originally produced MTV WORLD STAGE event on August 15, 2009 at Sunway Lagoon Resort in Kuala Lumpur. Kasabian, the UK’s chart-topping rock band, has been confirmed to perform live on “MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia,” marking the band’s first live appearance in Southeast Asia.

MTV WORLD STAGE “Live in Malaysia” will be staged in front of a live audience of over 20,000 and premieres on MTV Asia 31st August 2009 at 8:00pm (GMT+8 hours). MTV WORLD STAGE “Live in Malaysia” will also be broadcasted on 44 MTV Channels in 157 different countries. It will air across Asia on MTV channels premiering on MTV Asia to 13 territories (28th August, 8p.m.), MTV China (4th September, 10p.m), VH1 India (4th September, xxx pm), MTV Indonesia (FTV, 11th September, 10p.m.) and MTV Korea (12th September, 12 midnight). A 30-minute version of the event will telecast globally following the regional broadcast. Global telecast details for Japan, Australia, Europe and United States will be announced in the coming weeks.

MTV WORLD STAGE is a global series that brings multi-genre talents with global relevance to an audience in over 550 million households. Recorded “live” at the most exclusive gigs, world renowned music festivals and unique concert locations from around the world, MTV WORLD STAGE is the “front row seat” for music lovers to experience the biggest artists on the globe every Friday night without leaving the comfort of their sofas. MTV WORLD STAGE first premiered on February 27th 2009 and featured hit band Coldplay live in Tokyo. Other artists featured are Amy Winehouse in the Oxegen Festival, Ireland; Katy Perry in Malaga; and Franz Ferdinand in Valencia, among others.

Critically acclaimed great heretics of British rock, Kasabian caught the attention of music lovers in their self-titled debut album in 2003 and its singles, “Processed Beats” and “Club Foot”. The band won the Best Live Act award at the prestigious 2007 NME Awards, and will perform live for the very first time in Southeast Asia, performing hits including “Fire,” the single from their new album “West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum”. “Fire” rose to number 3 on the UK singles charts since it was released on June 7 2009 and “West Ryder Pauper Asylum” was number 1 on the UK album charts for 2 consecutive weeks.
“It’s going to be the first time we’ve ever played a gig in Malaysia and we are really looking forward to the opportunity to play for our Asian fans at the MTV World Stage event. The fans can expect a fantastic show,” said Sergio Pizzorno, vocal and guitarist of Kasabian.

Music fans in Malaysia can look forward to be part of MTV WORLD STAGE “Live In Malaysia” by taking part in the road show organized, winning concert passes to the event. MTV will be holding the road show at the Curve, in Kuala Lumpur from the 1st – 2nd August 2009 between 12pm – 7pm. Besides fun games and great collectible premiums giveaways, auditions will also be held at the road show where only the wildest, loudest and most passionate music fan will gain access to hottest spot at the show – the Mosh Pit!

Concert passes are also up for grabs at, from 1 – 31 July, 2009.
