Sunway staff club, Kelab Sosial Sunway, which takes the lead in driving many of the company’s socio-economic projects including flood relief and other humanitarian efforts across Malaysia, seeks to enrich the lives of the underprivileged and impoverished communities under the Reach-out programme.
Besides partnering with not-for-profit organisations like the United States-based Stop Hunger Now to support the less fortunate, Sunway also puts together numerous activities and celebrations with other financially destitute communities throughout the nation.
Light of Hope Programme
In line with Sunway’s “Light of Hope” programme to reach out and touch the lives of the less privileged especially during major festivals, Sunway devises a string of activities and celebrates with individuals from underprivileged homes, schools or orphanages throughout the nation.
To date, Sunway has hosted some 80,000 underprivileged children, single parents and the elderly to a memorable and joyous day-out at Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World of Tambun theme parks, Sunway hotels and Sunway shopping malls in addition to practical gifts and goods.
Sunway continues to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in its people by encouraging active participation in aid efforts on top of cash and in-kind contributions.
Stop Hunger Now
In collaboration with the United States-based Stop Hunger Now, Sunway launched the Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Programme in 2014 as a joint effort to combat hunger.
More than 800 Sunway staff have packed some 100,000 meals at Sunway locations across Peninsular Malaysia to support the less fortunate communities in the central, southern and northern regions.
In total, Sunway has reached out to more than 1,000 individuals predominantly children and poor families.
This is an annual initiative organised by Sunway and is one of Sunway’s biggest volunteer efforts which encourages Sunway staff to reach out to the community.
