May 24, 2009 – The Gotong-Royong Campaign with Sunway Damansara Sdn Bhd to clean up the Dataran Sunway commercial centre was officiated by the Mayor of MBPJ, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Roslan bin Sakiman.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Panneerselvam Varathan, MBPJ Councillor; Mr. Ngian Siew Siong, Managing Director, Sunway Damansara Sdn Bhd; Pn. Hajah Noraida binti Haji Mohd. Yusof, Director of Sunway Damansara Sdn Bhd & Controller of Selangor State Economic Development Corporation (PKNS); and Tuan Haji Syed Abd Malik B. Syed A Hamid Aljafree, MBPJ Councillor.
In his speech, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Roslan bin Sakiman said that this initiative clearly reflects MBPJ’s commitment and responsibility towards civic issues and substantiates what it has aimed to achieve through the ‘year of cleanliness’ campaign launched earlier this year.
“While we continue our efforts and clean the city with initiatives such as this, I would like to reinforce that each of us as a citizen has a responsibility of keeping our surroundings clean and hygienic in ensuring that Dataran Sunway will become a role model of Zon Bersih, an important element of the cleanliness campaign launched by MBPJ earlier this year,” he said.
The mayor urged the community from the other zones to emulate the initiative and to look up to Dataran Sunway as a good example that a commercial area can be a clean and healthy environment, granted that everyone plays their role.
Responding to Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Roslan’s comments, Sunway Damansara Sdn Bhd’s Managing Director, Ngian Siew Seong said that, “The presence of everyone who came today demonstrates that we all share the same ideals – that is the creation of a better environment within the community.”
“At Sunway, we have always believed in nurturing communities within an environment which is safe and conducive for healthy living. As the community master developer, we have a track record of initiating and supporting many awareness and civic campaigns, and now this gotong royong to enhance the overall environment for the Sunway communities,” Ngian added.
