Sunway Group works together to spread awareness for the environment.

This year, Sunway Group will be celebrating Earth Hour in a much bigger scale than it has before. Stemming from the success of previous Earth Hour celebrations done at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Sunway Group decided to step up and get other components from the group to participate as well.

Sunway Shopping Malls, which comprise of Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Giza, Sunway Putra Mall, and Sunway Carnival will be having awareness activities in their respective malls starting 24th March leading up to this year’s Earth Hour which is slated on 31st March. Sunway Shopping Malls are once again partnering up with WWF-Malaysia after last year’s success. WWF-Malaysia will be having pledge booths where shoppers can stop by to make their pledge for Earth Hour and to ‘pot-a-plant’ for the environment.

“Climate change and environmental issues are no longer just the responsibility of NGOs and governments. Rightfully it is a joint responsibility by all. We are glad that Sunway Shopping Malls, Sunway City and other Sunway components are coming together as a collective group to support Earth Hour as together we can achieve more. Collectively, these components offer a wide platform to remind and educate the public to do their part in conserving the environment,” said Mr. HC Chan, Chief Executive Officer, Sunway Shopping Malls.

Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Medical Centre, Menara Sunway, Sunway Lagoon Club, Sunway Putra Hotel, and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa will be switching off all non-essential lights. The lights at the Grand Arch of Sunway Resort Hotel will be switched off as well as the façade lights along the hotel which stretches to Pyramid Tower Hotel. Guests of the hotel will be encouraged to turn off their lights too.
Sunway University will be having a Sunway Ensemble Recital to raise funds for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation. “Lighting will be minimal in the multipurpose hall where the concert will take place. By observing this during the concert, we hope to create more awareness for the internationally-celebrated Earth Hour and our support for the environment, among our students.” said Jane Poh, Administrator of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.

Up north in Seberang Jaya, Sunway Hotel will be doing something similar too but will turn off non-essential lights in the hotel lobby and common area each day for half an hour from 8.30pm to 9.00pm creating a soft awareness for Earth Hour.

At the Lost World of Tambun in Ipoh, Earth Hour will be conducted during the ‘Lock & Key Event’ at the Lost World Hotel. At 8.30pm, all non-essential lights within the hotel will be switched off one at a time. During this period, the participants will be issued with a glow in the dark light stick wristband to be worn whilst being entertained by the house band who will play unplugged. This will be followed by pledges to save the Earth.
