Bandar Sunway – Sunway City hosted its official show lights lighting-up ceremony this evening with a host of international guests and invitees from the embassies and consulates representing the global communities around the world for breaking of fast or ‘buka puasa’.
En Rashidi bin Hasbullah, Deputy Secretary General, Ministry of Tourism, along with Datuk Razman Hashim, Deputy Chairman, Sunway Group officiated the streetlights at Sunway City. Witnessing the event were Ambassadors of Afghanistan and Republic of Croatia; representatives from Morocco Embassy and Singapore High Commission as well as Afghanistan refugee children from who were the special guests.
With the theme C’haya Raya Eid Mubarak, this year, Sunway City had worked to extend the splendor of Sunway Pyramid’s Marrakesh precinct to the streets by decking its streets and passageways with Moroccan inspired lamps and motifs.
The lighting ceremony officiated the festive showlights which starts at the main archway to the Sunway City, where two camels, regally glitter with intricate flourishes, welcome visitors. The camels, which recur at the main entrance of Sunway Lagoon, and at the entrance to Sunway Resort Hotel are believed to represent Baraka, or blessings and protective charm.
The guests of honour struck a giant match and lit up the million glimmering LED and fairy lights which formed interlacing arabesque motifs and striking six-petal desert flowers, which are native to Moroccan soil. The passageways are basked in iridescent gold and silver, invoking the shimmer of Saharan sand with rich reds and oranges that conjure up desert sunsets and accentuated by richly hued greens and blues reminiscent of the Mediterranean sea.
Gigantic vibrant Moroccan lamps in kaleidoscopic colours highlight the entryways of Sunway Resort Hotel and Sunway Pyramid. The fountain area at Sunway Pyramid, a favorite photography spot for most tourists and visitors, lit up with entrancing curlicues that fascinates in their continuity and mesmerizing symmetry.
Guests were treated to a tour of the endless exotic wonders that the Sunway City has in store for its visitors this festive season. At Sunway Pyramid, a dramatically regal centerpiece became the center of attraction while the exotic experience continued on to the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, which showcased a dreamy Arabian Nights décor.
“We are honored to have the Ambassadors of Afghanistan and Croatia; representatives from Morocco Embassy and Singapore High Commission; Afghan refugee children and International students from Sunway University; and expatriates join us in this significant showlights event. We had wanted a particularly meaningful celebration this year, and as a host City to 36 million visitors from around the world each year, we very much want to make this Ramadhan and Hari Raya an especially memorable one for all,” said Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, Deputy Chairman of Sunway Group.
Guests and children for the evening were taught to make arts and crafts, typical of Malaysia at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. They had a hand at making Bubur lambuk, a traditional Malay porridge made during fasting month; anyaman, traditional handicrafts; and kuihs or cookies. All guests were feted to flavours of home, authentic Malay dishes, themed “WarisanRumpunMelayu” for buka puasa.
