Sunway Group Board Members Recognised by REHDA

Chief Executive Officer of Sunway REIT, Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip, has been named REHDA Personality of 2015 while Datuk Seri Michael Yam Kong Choy, a Director on the board of Sunway Berhad has been conferred REHDA patronship at the Rehda Annual Dinner 2015 which held recently.

They received the prestigious recognition from the Guest of Honour for the evening, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Abdul Rahman bin Dahlan.

The awarding body, REHDA, or the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia is the sole representative body for private property developers and is mainly involved in the advocacy and governance of the industry. Currently REHDA has over 1,000 member developers within the association; which are responsible for some 80% of the total real estate built in Malaysia.

The REHDA Personality award was introduced in 2013 to recognise a member of REHDA for his contributions to REHDA and the industry, the individual’s strong leadership quality, vision and must be a prominent industry leader. Dato’ Jeffrey Ng is the second recipient for the award.
The REHDA patronship is conferred to the immediate past president after he has completed his presidency, which Datuk Seri Michael Yam helmed the post from 2010-2014.

Dato’ Jeffrey Ng, has more than 30 years of extensive experience in finance, corporate planning and executive management in the property and hotel industry in both Malaysia and Australia. His previous positions includes the President of Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA), Chairman of REHDA Wilayah Persekutuan (KL) Branch, Director of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Vice President and Secretary General of FIABCI Malaysian Chapter (International Real Estate Federation), Vice President of Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO), Chapter Chairman of Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) Malaysian Chapter and Vice Chairman of Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC). In 1999, he was conferred a fellowship by Malaysian Institute of Directors and accorded the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ by MABC in 2003. In 2008, he was advanced to fellowship member of Institute of Chartered Accountants, Australia. In 2009, he was conferred the patron of REHDA. In 2011, he was appointed by the Minister of Federal Territories as a panel member of the Appeal Board under the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982.

From stewarding the establishment of Sunway REIT in 2010, Dato’ Jeffrey Ng has grown Sunway REIT’s initial portfolio of eight assets, to its current 14 assets in high-growth locations in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Perak. Sunway REIT is one of the largest REIT in Malaysia in terms of asset size at RM6.34 billion as at 30 September 2015. With a market capitalisation of RM4.6 billion as at 30 September 2015, Sunway REIT is one of the largest retail-focused REIT listed on the Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.

Datuk Seri Yam has an illustrious career spanning more than 35 years in the construction, real estate and corporate sectors and has been actively involved with REHDA since 2001. He has contributed immensely to the growth of the nation’s housing and property industry and REHDA, advocating best practices in business conducts and introduced the Association’s 4R tenets; Responsive, Respected, Responsible and Relevant in 2013. He also spurred the establishment of REHDA Youth, a platform to spawn future industry leaders as well as the “World Class Sustainable Cities” (WCSC) International Conference, which was mooted in 2009 and remains a significant annual event in the property industry’s calendar.

He is a director of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, a trustee for the Standard Chartered Foundation and until recently, the only Asian elected onto the Board of Trustees of UK based Chartered Institute of Building. He is the immediate past President of the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association of Malaysia from 2010 until October 2014, a member of the Advisory Board to the Mayor and City of Kuala Lumpur. He is also appointed as the Chairman of InvestKL Corporation, a Government initiative established to attract large global multinationals to invest and set up regional headquarters in Greater Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley apart from being an independent non-executive director of Kwasa Land Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Employees Provident Fund Board. He also serves as Chairman of Remuneration Committee as well as a Member of the Audit and Nomination Committees.
