Sunway City, 28 February 2018 ~ Sunway Group was acknowledged for its sterling contributions to the nation’s tourism industry last night, bagging two highly coveted awards and three nominations at the prestigious Malaysia Tourism Awards 2016/2017.
Sunway Group received the Prime Minister’s Award (organisation), handpicked by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, for its immense contributions to the country’s tourism industry. In the Best Shopping Centre category, Sunway dominated the awards with Sunway Putra Mall bagging the honour of being the Best Shopping Centre (Integrated Shopping Centre), while Sunway Velocity Mall and Sunway Pyramid were both shortlisted in that same category.
Over the last 43 years, guided by the vision and foresight of Sunway Group’s founder and chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO, the Group has developed integrated cities and developments spanning over 5,000 acres, that are value-creating tourist destinations.

Reopened in 2015, Sunway Putra Mall is a unique tourist attraction for its fascinating architecture, which melds the heritage site’s structure with a novel multicolored glass façade.
Linked to the 618-room Sunway Putra Hotel, Sunway Putra Mall epitomises the sustainable value derived from tourism, having created more than 3,000 jobs, and bringing in tourism revenue from 8.4 million visits yearly. The transit-oriented Mall was also the winner of the Retail Category in the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2017 last year, deemed the “Oscars” of the property industry, and the prestigious KL Mayor’s Tourism Award 2017.
Collectively, this is the 6th Malaysia Tourism Award picked up by Sunway Malls. Prior to Sunway Putra Mall’s win, Sunway Pyramid has won awards in 1998, 2004, 2010/2011, 2012/2013 and 2014/2015.
