Nurturing professional healthcare

Sunway Medical Centre (SunMed) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a partnership focusing on nursing.

Initiated by SunMed’s Nursing Education Department, the collaboration will see the two parties working together to nurture professional healthcare providers in nursing while facilitating growth within the nursing arena. This collaboration will also pave the way to facilitate and coordinate all forms of communication between SunMed and UTAR.

Some of the key areas of focus include, creating nursing education opportunities for nursing students of UTAR, producing and participating in healthcare-related content, embarking on joint efforts such as career fairs, conferences, symposiums, student recruitment drives, talks and exhibitions as well as developing nursing talents between UTAR and SunMed.

According to Mr Lau Beng Long, Managing Director, Sunway Group Healthcare Services, “Given the rapid progress of the healthcare sector in Malaysia, the need for interdependence, strategic co-operative partnerships with like-minded parties such as UTAR are not an option, but a necessity to address challenges and facilitate growth.”

“We believe this partnership will lead us towards the development and improvement of nursing talents, while adding value to both our institutions,” Mr Lau added.

Meanwhile, a beaming Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, President, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman said, “This MoU will help open the door to several opportunities for current and potential nursing students for both Sunway Medical Centre and UTAR. I look forward to this partnership as it will facilitate the coordination and process of creating nursing education opportunities and career opportunities for UTAR nursing students in collaboration with Sunway Medical Centre.”

He further added “UTAR nursing undergraduates can pursue career opportunities with Sunway Medical Centre through the collaborative efforts of both parties to ensure a smoother screening and recruitment process with better deployment of nursing talents.”

This initiative takes cue from Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chairman of the Sunway Group, a visionary leader who has played a key role in Malaysian education, bringing quality higher learning to our community and country, and given generously to society through education.

The MoU was signed by Mr Lau Beng Long, Managing Director, Sunway Group Healthcare Services and Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, President, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.
