Bandar Sunway – The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) sponsored the “Making High Income Nation a Reality” conference held today at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. The conference, which saw Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak deliver the keynote address, invited participants to discuss their aspirations and challenges in transforming Malaysia into a high income economy by 2020.
Jointly organized by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) and the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP), and partnered by The Star, the conference received positive response from Malaysians with close to 400 members of the public in attendance.
Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Chairman of ASLI said “We are happy that many young professionals participated in today’s conference as they are the future of Malaysia. It is important that their views are heard and that they have the opportunity to have an open discussion with key leaders and decision makers in Malaysia.”
In addition to the welcome addresses delivered by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek and ASLI Chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, the conference saw several key figures in Malaysia share their views on a wide range of topics. Speakers at the conference included Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Chua Tee Yong, Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn, Chairman, STAR & INSAP, Sustainable Energy Development Authority, Tan Sri Dato’ Azman bin Hj. Mokhtar, Managing Director, Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Mr Chua Tiam Wee, National President, SMI Association of Malaysia, Leaderonomics Chief Executive Officer Roshan Thiran and Centre for Public Policy Studies Chairman Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam.
The discussions were moderated by MCA leaders, including Deputy President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Vice-Presidents Senator Gan Ping Sieu and Datuk Chor Chee Heung. Topics discussed were varied, but the two that garnered the most interest from participants were “Winning the War on Talent – The Key to Successful Transformation: How to Develop, Attract and Retain Talent and Human Capital” and “Turning Vision into Reality”.
