At the prestigious International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Malaysia Property Award, often dubbed the Oscars of the property industry, Sunway City became the jubilant developer to bag two coveted honours tonight. Sunway City Ipoh received the esteemed best Master Plan Award; while Sunway Pyramid triumphed in the best Retail Development Category.

To date and in entirety, Sunway City has garnered a total of six awards from the prominent worldwide network for professionals in the property industry, with Sunway Pyramid honoured for the second time.

The previous four awards were : World Class FIABCI International Prix d’Excellence 2002 Award (Leisure Category), conferred to Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa; FIABCI Award of Distinction for Best Hotel Development Award 2001, conferred to Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa; FIABCI Award of Distinction for Best Retail Development 2000, conferred to Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall and Convention Centre and the FIABCI Award of Distinction for Best Leisure Development Award 1993, conferred to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.

Amongst the many entries, Sunway City Ipoh emerged as winner of the Master Plan Category for its successful and sustainable concept plan of building a township and housing estate development that catered to the healthy lifestyle of the community. This category was judged based on financial considerations, partnerships with authorities, implementation, environmental impact and benefits to the community.

Ngeow Voon Yean, Managing Director of Property Investment, Sunway City Berhad, said that the Group is deeply appreciative of this honoured recognition of Sunway City’s continuous commitment to make liveability a top pursuit with the finest in retail and commercial; hospitality; leisure and education components.

“We are on track towards continuously transforming ourselves from being a local property developer into an integrated global player in the property development industry,” commented Mr. Ho Hon Sang, Managing Director of Property Development Division, Malaysia, Sunway City Berhad.

“We intend to ceaselessly seek breakthroughs with innovative concepts and exceed market expectations such as driving the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) philosophy in our developments. We see our ventures overseas as an avenue to promote our brand values as well as to enrich the local property market with our experience abroad,” he added.

On the other hand, Sunway Pyramid trumped all entries to become the Best Retail Development 2010 for the second time as a tribute to its RM550 million transformation into a 4-million sq ft shopping kingdom. Whilst the expansion had retained its iconic Egyptian-inspired design, the mall now houses 800 specialty outlets in five distinctive shopping precincts : Fashion Central, Oasis Boulevard, Asian Avenue, Marrakesh and Kidz Zone.

The Mall was also selected for integrating singularly outstanding green features such as the
Carpark Guiding System which eases traffic congestion and reduces carbon monoxide emissions; as well as waterless urinals.

Upon receiving the award for the second time, Mr. Ngeow Voon Yean, managing director of SunCity’s Property Investment division dedicated this award to the Sunway Pyramid’s team, customers and stakeholders.

“It is twice the honour, and twice the gratitude that we must bestow to our people who remain the bulwark of our strength, and our stakeholders both local and international who has stood by us for all these years. It is our people’s continued commitment to our success that is the catalyst of our rapid growth, and it is our customers’ needs that spur our everlasting desire to expand with quality and innovation in mind. To our customers, we want you to know that this award means that we will continue to strive to give back to you what you have given us, so we can be worthy of tonight’s honour.”
