WINNER TO REPRESENT MALAYSIA AT STARTUP WORLD CUP IN SILICON VALLEY

 Champion of Startup World Cup 2018 to win USD 1,000,000 in investment

Sunway City, 10 April 2018 – Fenox Venture Capital today held the first ever Startup World Cup Malaysia in partnership with MDEC, Malaysia Digital Hub, and Sunway iLabs to connect Malaysian startups to the vast opportunities and resources available in Silicon Valley.

This year, Startup World Cup Malaysia 2018 pitted 10 final startups in a pitch competition, including food delivery startup Dahmakan, and Neuroware on blockchain infrastructure. Startup World Cup Malaysia 2018 is part of the Startup World Cup 2018, a global conference and pitch competition that brings together top startups, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and global tech CEOs. The Startup World Cup Malaysia pitch competition aims to bridge our local startup ecosystems worldwide, while also encouraging the most talented entrepreneurs to battle to be the champion of the Startup World Cup. The Startup World Cup Grand Finale will be held in US’s Silicon Valley.

The Malaysian winner will be provided free flight and event tickets to attend a host of workshops, a networking party, and the Grand Finale event on 11 May 2018 where startups from around the world will pitch their ideas to a panel of prominent judges for a chance to take home the trophy and USD 1,000,000 investment prize.

Startup World Cup partners some of the world’s largest conference and tech events to host regional startup competitions leading up to the Grand Finale. Including the Malaysian installation, this year, there were a total 30 regional events across North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia leading up to the Grand Finale.

In his opening speech, Malaysia Digital Economy (MDEC) Vice President of Growth Ecosystem Development, Norhizam Kadir, said, “We are most pleased to have Fenox VC as MDEC’s partner to bolster the startup ecosystem that we are building here in Malaysia. The Startup World Cup Malaysia will be a catalyst to increase the number of enduring, high-growth startups that will succeed on a regional and global scale in tandem with our ambition to develop a world-class digital economy by 2020.”

Speaking of MDEC’s Digital Hub initiatives, Norhizam said: “The Digital Hub programme has been seen as a master cog, an initiative that also has a global aspect, as it is open to both local and foreign startups and entrepreneurs. With strong partnerships from industry – the MDEC-initiated Digital Hub programme will be able to speed up startup growth as an important aspect of Malaysia’s Digital Economy.”

Director of Sunway iLabs, Matt van Leeuwen said, “Sunway iLabs is delighted to be working closely with MDEC and Fenox Venture Capital as the Malaysian Digital Hub partner of this first of its kind initiative in Malaysia.
