Sunway Delivered Raya Cheer to 30,000 Malaysians Amidst Pandemic

Sunway’s meaningful celebration throughout Ramadhan and Syawal touched the lives of some 30,000 Malaysians who received various contributions in the form of rice, bubur lambuk, packed meals, groceries and more across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor and Kelantan.

The various business divisions across Sunway, such as Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway Pharmacy, Sunway Healthcare, Sunway Malls, Sunway Property and Sunway Hotel, also jointly contributed items to bring cheer to thousands more in the B40 community nationwide.

Sunway teams in various regions went to the ground in masjid, surau, orphanages, old-folk’s homes, homeless shelters, People’s Housing Programmes (PPRs), government facilities, which include a hospital and a women’s prison, in an effort to connect with the underprivileged and celebrate the festive cheer through its #SunwayforGood umbrella.

Sunway Group Deputy Executive Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim shared that Sunway cooperated with various parties such as Selangor Youth Community (SAY), Malaysian Red Crescent, Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Malaysia, Lembaga Zakat Selangor and many more to reach a bigger number of beneficiaries within the B40 community in various states.

“In the spirit of Ramadhan and Raya, our stand is that no one should be left behind, Sunway will continue to extend help to the underserved and vulnerable communities. This is especially important during this challenging period of the pandemic, where every little bit goes a long way,” said Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim.

He assured that in the face of national adversity and challenges, Sunway is with the communities and Malaysia every step of the way to combat the COVID-19 in all ways possible.

Rice Donation for ATM Beras

An initiative that spanned all six states in Malaysia, rice was slotted into ATMs that were installed in eight identified masjid and suraus. Each ATM is supplied with 100 RFID Cards and, thus far, 625 beneficiaries have collected 1,000kg of rice.

Groceries Distribution

Understanding that times has been especially challenging since the second quarter of last year, Sunway Group put together 1,548 packs of essential groceries to be shared with families nationwide. This effort was put together in partnership with Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Malaysia and Malaysian Red Crescent that took place throughout the Ramadhan period.  

Bubur Lambuk Distribution

A must-have during Ramadhan, 10,000 containers of specially prepared bubur lambuk were given out to frontline workers, essential service staff and B40 families nationwide. This initiative took place from 16 April to 10 May 2021, with the delicious delicacy prepared by Sunway Resort Hotel, Sunway Putra Hotel, Sunway Lost World of Tambun, and the Malaysian Red Crescent.

Packed Meals During Ramadhan and Raya

Frontline workers, children, carers, senior citizens, essential workers, the homeless and prison inmates were treated with packed meals during the holy month of Ramadhan and festivities of Raya. Over 4,108 meals were prepared and shared in a multitude of locations across the northern, west and southern regions of Malaysia, from the hospital and orphanages to homeless shelters and a prison.

Raya Cheer with Children at Homes in Selangor

185 children from four homes were overjoyed at receiving duit raya, festive cookies and vitamin C given out by Sunway Group and Selangor Youth Community (SAY). Persatuan Kebajikan dan Perlindungan Rumah Jalinan Kasih, Pusat Jagaan Darul Sakinah Angkasa, SHELTER Home for Children and Rumah Anak Yatim Rukkaiyah also each received groceries worth RM1,000, a laptop and face masks.

In total, Sunway teams across the nation delivered 1,000kg of rice, 10,000 containers of bubur lambuk, 4,108 packed meals, 1,548 bags of groceries and other essentials for Hari Raya. Four homes were also gifted a laptop for the children to have access to quality education under the Sunway LINE (Learn. Innovate. Nurture. Evolve.) initiative.

Leading up to its 50th anniversary, Sunway has also embarked on a mission to fulfil four pledges by 2024. The pledges are to build and refurbish at least 50 libraries through the Sunway READ (Reading Enhances Aspiration and Drive) programme; to pack a total of one million meals for undernourished communities; to set up 50 urban farms for 50 orphanages, and to provide basic health screening in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation for 50 Orang Asal communities.
