Sunway Group treated over 200 underprivileged children from orphanages and homes across Selangor to a fun-filled day of shopping for new Baju Raya before hosting them at Sunway Resort Hotel for a scrumptious Buka Puasa buffet dinner, which was graced by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, the Queen Consort to the Sultan of Selangor.

The festivities were organised in partnership with Selangor Youth Community (SAY), and is part of this year’s Raya Cheer initiative under #SunwayforGood, the Group’s corporate responsibility umbrella that pledges to promote sustainability efforts and social inclusion through three areas namely education, healthcare and community enrichment, aligned with Sunway’s commitment to advance the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Sunway Group Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim said, “Corporate Social Responsibility has always been in our DNA. Since its inception, #SunwayforGood has positively impacted hundreds of thousands of lives. We firmly believe in doing well by doing good, and try as much as possible to leave no one behind.

At Sunway, bringing festive cheer to underprivileged communities is one of our most cherished and celebrated traditions. I would like to pay tribute to the hundreds of volunteers of various races and religions from the Sunway family who come together each year to ensure we deliver on our commitment,” he added.

The 200 children, along with their caregivers, were each allocated a budget in their shopping spree for new Raya clothes at AEON in Sunway Pyramid. These beneficiaries were specially selected by SAY from Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Jalinan Kasih, Pusat Kraftangan Komuniti Orang Asli Sungai, Persatuan Rumah Kebajikan Anak Anak Yatim Dan Ibu Tunggal Hajah Kamariah and Buku Jalanan Chow Kit.

The children also received goody bags containing Vitamin C supplements, blankets and a culinary set from Sunway; gift bags from AEON; as well as 20 kilogrammes’ worth of pesticide-free lettuce grown by Sunway XFarms, giving the children an opportunity to sample nutritious produce harvested from the urban, vertical farm.

Throughout the months of Ramadan and Raya celebration, Sunway is working hand-in-hand with its partners on ground to deliver essential groceries, Duit Raya and Buka Puasa packed meals to some 23,000 beneficiaries, including the homeless, B40 groups, People Living with HIV (PLHIV), orphanages and underprivileged communities. These partners include, SAY, Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF), Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), Adab Youth Garage (AYG) and Mutiara Food Bank.

Sunway’s long-term partnership with MAF continues this year through the Sunway Food Bank programme, delivering meals, groceries and financial aid nationwide to some 1,000 families.

Since its inception, #SunwayforGood has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries, and aims to positively impact millions more across the country, underscored by its core values and purpose-driven commitment.

In the lead up to its 50th anniversary in 2024, Sunway has also embarked on a mission to fulfil four pledges – building and refurbishing at least 50 libraries through the Sunway READ (Reading Enhances Aspiration and Drive) programme, packing a total of one million meals for undernourished communities, setting up 50 urban farms for 50 orphanages, and providing basic health screening in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation for 50 Orang Asal communities.
