Malaysia’s Largest Pure-Play Construction Outfit
As the largest pure-play construction company in Malaysia by revenue, Sunway Construction is recognised for its world-class expertise in a diverse range of market segments, including building construction services and civil/infrastructure construction services; foundation and geotechnical services; mechanical, electrical and plumbing services; manufacturing and sale of precast concrete products, and renewable energy.
With a track record spanning over 39 years, we are capable of tailoring fully integrated and cost-effective solutions for our clients, delivering effective design-and-build services as well as control over timely delivery and quality. Our completed projects include significant landmarks and projects namely Legoland Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, government buildings in Putrajaya, the Kajang-SILK Highway and Malaysia’s first dedicated and elevated Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT-Sunway Line). We have also undertaken projects beyond local borders by venturing into Singapore, India, the Middle East, Myanmar and the Caribbean regions.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we were one of the pioneers that embarked on the use of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), or most commonly known as Building Information Modeling (BIM). VDC enables the construction of a digital building model which provides tremendous savings potential, as it offers the advantage of perfecting the design, material and methods as frequently as required before actual construction begins. This also gives us a greater competitive edge and brings our operations to greater heights.
We continue to maintain our status on the FTSE4Good Index Series, in line with our commitment to sustainability development, demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance practices. We were named Builder of the Year three times in 2003, 2005, and 2013 and Contractor of the Year in 2019 at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA). To date, we have garnered numerous national and international recognitions for excellent industry performance, management, safety and health, as well as quality.

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Package V201
The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Package V201 is part of Malaysia’s second MRT project, the Putrajaya Line. The scope of work involved construction of 4.9 km of elevated viaduct including long span crossings over Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) tracks, and three elevated stations along Jalan Kuala Selangor, a major highway in the Klang Valley region.
As the entire portion of the project is elevated, construction above existing services such as railways, energised overhead catenary lines, the Sungai Gasi monsoon drain, and the widely used highways of Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) and Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) presented a key challenge. Stringent safety measures were deployed and consistently maintained to ensure the safety of the public, staff and workers throughout the construction.
PETRONAS New Leadership Centre (PNLC)
The new PETRONAS Leadership Centre is a technologically advanced learning and training centre, consisting of a one-storey semi-basement carpark, a four-storey institutional building, two guard houses and a surau.
Designed with a target Platinum rating for both Green Building Index (GBI) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the centre encourages social collaboration and enhances future learning experiences through innovative learning spaces, supporting the PETRONAS work culture.
The form of the campus is a curved central pedestrian spine that becomes a main infrastructure focus and links all building components, where classes and accommodation blocks are interconnected closely to create cohesion. Spaces are physically connected via pedestrian bridges, adjoining classrooms, guest rooms and public spaces.
The project is being implemented to full BIM standards from its design stage through to facilities management with Level of Detail (LOD) 500, which enables the end user to maintain the facility more efficiently.
Gross Floor Area
GAS District Cooling Plant 1
The project is an upgrading of the existing GAS District Cooling (GDC) Plant 1 in Precinct 1, Putrajaya to serve the increasing demand of chilled water for air conditioning at the new government office complexes. The main scope of work included installation of six units of chillers, one unit of gas boiler, five units of heat exchangers, two units of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks, and construction of a new annex building.
The 2 steel Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks, each 27.8m in height and 24.5m in diameter with a total capacity of 50,000 RTh, are designed to store chilled water during the night which in turn will be used for cooling purposes during the day.
Sunway Construction developed a unique method known as ‘Synchronised Electrical Chain Hoisting’ to construct the steel TES tanks by lifting each section of the tank’s shell into place, enabling faster and safer construction.
