Bringing Smiles and Cheer to Malaysians We Care About
-
Leading up to this year’s Raya festivities, we feature three individuals whose lives have been positively impacted through our CSR initiatives and food outreach programmes.
-
In celebration of our 50th anniversary, we continue our pledge towards enriching the lives we touch by embarking on our #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan, a month-long CSR initiative to spread smiles and cheer among underserved communities across five states nationwide.

At Sunway, our CSR initiatives under the #SunwayforGood umbrella champion long-term partnerships and staff volunteer-driven initiatives in three areas of focus, namely education, healthcare and community enrichment.
Raya is here once again – and this beckons another year of spreading cheer and smiles with Sunway.
Coinciding with the Group’s 50th anniversary, this year’s festive season further amplifies our dedication to the community and corporate social responsibility (CSR) through our #SunwayforGood umbrella, encapsulated through our nationwide Raya Cheer campaign.
A Raya Spotlight
Titled “Sinar Raya”, our Raya video dives into our pledge to lifting the communities we serve and to touch as many lives as possible this Raya season and beyond.
This is emphasised through the stories of three individuals – Norlela Mokhtar, Ng Sing Hon and Kiran Seth – whom we spoke with this Hari Raya.
Diagnosed with HIV in the early , Norlela faced much stigma and financial adversity. In a time when awareness and understanding of the condition were relatively low, she struggled to gain support from those around her. Eventually, she found her plea for assistance answered by Sunway and the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF).
Our long-term partnership with MAF offers and essential groceries to all and especially marginalised communities.
As a current beneficiary whose life has taken a turn for the better, Norlela now advocates for the rights of people who share the same fate, as well as educates the public about HIV.
Meanwhile, Vivian Lim is delighted and grateful that her son, Sing Hon, had not only found his sense of belonging, but also gained independence as a trainee with down syndrome at Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled (GOLD).
He undertakes various upskilling schemes in the Sunway Job Training Programme, which is part of a collaboration between GOLD and Sunway. Having picked up new skills such as cleaning, cooking, baking and even sales, on top of his inclination towards sports and dancing, Sing Hon has proven that his ability is stronger than his disability.
Since being a Sunway volunteer in 2017, Kiran has participated in numerous projects, each enabling her to create new cherished memories and empowering her to continue volunteering.
Whether it is seeing gleeful faces of children during festive cheers or working with Rise Against Hunger to pack two million meals for marginalised communities, Kiran finds such efforts to be truly fulfilling.
These selfless efforts are shining examples that reflect the true spirit of Sunway. Everyone – from our management to all staff – is inculcated with a culture of volunteerism and the spirit of giving back to society, reaffirming our belief that no corporation can live apart from the communities it serves.
Kicking Off Our Annual Festive Cheer with #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan
Ahead of the Raya festivities, we celebrate our nationwide #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan. In conjunction with our 50th anniversary, this month-long CSR initiative has spread festive joy to underprivileged communities in Johor, Perak, Penang, Selangor and Terengganu.
The homes involved were Pusat Jagaan Impian Syimah (Johor), Kampung Orang Asli Kampung Chadak (Perak), Wisma Yatim Perempuan Islam (Penang), Rumah Amal Raudhatul Jannah (Selangor) and Baitul Cakna Lelaki Jambu Bongkok (Terengganu).
Each visit was made even more special with the presence of MAF Red Ribbon Celebrity Supporters such as Dato’ Chef Ismail Ahmad, Dato’ Aaron Aziz, Dee, Bob Yusof, Syahmi Irfan, Mimifly, Fahrin Ahmad and Shah Shamsiri illuminating smiles on every face.
Sunway volunteers and long-term NGO partners such as Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor (YRZSNJ), Selangor Youth Community (SAY) as well as Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRC) joined hands to distribute essential groceries, duit Raya and prepared a scrumptious buka puasa spread consisting of special signature dishes exclusively made by our MAF Celebrity Supporters such as Dato’ Chef Ismail’s oyster chicken rice for all five states and Dee’s special rice for the Penang leg, alongside our classics such as bubur lambuk, kuih-muih, kurma and more for the beneficiaries in orphanages, kampung orang asli, old folks homes and people living with HIV (PLHIV) centre.
Under our #SunwayforGood Sunway Food Bank initiative, we also worked alongside MRC on-ground to distribute RM100,000 worth of essential groceries to some 520 B40 families nationwide, as well as replenished rice at our Rice ATM machines in four locations across three states.
We believe that the little things matter to us. Alongside SAY, we took the caretakers and children of Rumah Amal Raudhatul Jannah to shop for new shoes and baju Raya for all residents of the home to complement their Hari Raya celebration.
Spreading the Raya Cheer
The month-long Syawal initiative culminated in a celebration with 300 underserved children from the B40 community at Sunway Resort Hotel, graced by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, in partnership with SAY.
We created new memories with these children, indulging in a widespread delight of Raya dishes and fun-filled activities, as well as the distribution of duit Raya, vitamin C supplements, Raya cookies, Sunway XFarms eco-friendly farm kits, chocolates, towels, Sunway red foldable bags and more. Some of these items were generously sponsored by our business divisions such as Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway Resort Hotel and Sunway Malls.
This year, our #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan has impacted more than 4,000 lives nationwide, marking one of our most successful CSR initiatives in recent years.
