Sunway’s corporate sustainability begins with our value system, which was influenced by the philosophy of our founder and chairman that companies can perform well by doing good business that benefits society. We strive to operate in ways that meet fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

ESG has always underpinned Sunway’s way of doing business, long before they were adopted by investors and regulators, and will continue to remain so even when there comes a day we are no longer required to comply.

Sunway has weathered several storms and financial crises that resulted in losses and threatened our survival in five decades of operations. Looking ahead, the observations of various experts from the economic standpoint and environmental landscapes point to various storms looming over the horizon.

Sunway’s Board is responsible for the development and evaluation of the strategy, direction, core values and corporate governance and for overseeing the management of the Group to ensure that the business will continue to operate sustainably with integrity in years to come while in full compliance with laws and regulations.

To further bolster Sunway’s preparedness in the global shift towards a more sustainable world, the Board Sustainability Committee (BSC) consists of members of the Board is tasked to review, supervise and make recommendations to the Board on the approval of the Group’s sustainability strategy and key issues, ESG targets and performance, progress and scorecard.

At the operational levels, the Group Sustainability Department (GS) supports the BSC in making informed decisions and embedding sustainability strategy in business operations.

Rapid digitalisation has brought about the urgent need for heightened security in the digital realm, especially for large conglomerates harnessing vast and diverse datasets in their business operations. Sunway recognises these risks. While cybersecurity systems vary across different business divisions, the Group adheres to the global standard for information security management system (ISO: 27001 standard) as our guiding principle on information and cybersecurity. This standard enables organisations of any kind to better manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties, providing the necessary framework for safety in the digital space.
