Kuala Lumpur – For the first time in Malaysia, Sunway Construction and Sime Darby Industrial have introduced a pink Cat 320D hydraulic excavator in Kuala Lumpur to demonstrate their support towards cancer awareness.
The excavator was recently commissioned by Sime Darby Industrial as a novel way to shed light on the disease by collaborating with Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF). Known as the PInk eXcavator for Cancer Research, or PIXCR, the excavator has been rented by Sunway Construction and a portion of the rental charges from PIXCR will be channelled towards CARIF by customer, in this case, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd. In addition, Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd will match the portion of the rental rate contribution to CARIF.
This excavator can be spotted at construction sites starting with the MRT contract package V4 site awarded to Sunway Construction, which is diagonally opposite Phileo Damansara and before Bukit Kiara turn-off, along the SPRINT highway in Petaling Jaya.
Mr. Chong Kwea Seng, Managing Director, Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, said “This is the first time for Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd to show our support towards CARIF and the commendable work they are doing in the name of cancer research in Malaysia. We are pleased to contribute towards raising funds for an affliction that mainly affects so many people via such a unique initiative.”
“We hope to meet our target of RM100,000 via the rentals and fund-raising initiatives over the next 12 operational months,” Chong added.
In support of this initiative, Sunway Construction will be adding PIXCR to its rental fleet for the next six months. Commenting on the initiative at the official handover ceremony, recently, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said, “We are proud to be here today alongside Malaysia’s two most respected builders, Sime Darby Industrial and MRT Corporation, to take this initiative to “dig deeper” into cancer research. Sime Darby and MRT have not only built the infrastructure necessary for our development as a nation, but also a solid foundation of health for the communities we serve.”
